How to fix a computer that won't turn on?
If your computer won't turn on, it can be frustrating and concerning. Here are some troubleshooting steps to try:
Check the Power Source:
- Ensure that the power cable is securely plugged into both the computer and the power outlet.
- Check if the power outlet is functioning by plugging in another device.
- If you're using a power strip or surge protector, make sure it's turned on and working properly.
Test the Power Supply:
- For a desktop computer, if the power supply fan is not spinning or there are no signs of power, it might be a faulty power supply.
- To test the power supply, you can use a power supply tester or replace it with a known working power supply.
- If you're not comfortable testing the power supply yourself, consult a professional technician.
Reset the Power:
- For a desktop computer, turn off the power switch on the back of the computer.
- Unplug the power cable from the back of the computer and the power outlet.
- Wait for about 30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Plug the power cable back in and turn on the power switch.
- Try turning on the computer again.
Note: Laptops usually don't have a power switch on the back. In this case, disconnect the charger and remove the battery. Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds, then reconnect the charger (without the battery) and try turning it on.

- Ensure that the power cables from the power supply are securely connected to the motherboard and other components.

Check for Overheating:

Test the RAM:
- Faulty RAM can prevent the computer from booting.
- Remove the RAM modules one at a time and then reseat them firmly into the slots.
- If you have multiple RAM modules, test them individually by trying to turn on the computer with only one RAM module installed at a time.
- This can help identify if there's a problem with a specific RAM module.
