Hover your mouse to play a sound
You can enhance the entertainment value of text or
images when you apply an effect that plays a sound
when you hover your mouse over the object. For
example, if you have a slide that announces the
winners of a skateboarding contest, you can add
impact and a festive feeling if viewers hear applause
when you hover your mouse over a picture of the
winning skateboarders. In the same way, on a slide
presenting great photos, you can apply the sound of
a camera clicking when you hover your mouse over
each image.
You can add hover sounds to text or images by using
action settings. Action Settings enable you to create
hyperlinks, run programs, run macros, or apply
sound effects like Applause, Arrow, Bomb, Breeze,
Camera, Cash Register, and Chime. You can also
apply more than one effect to an object, such as the
launch of a video clip and a sound effect at the same
time you hover over an object.
1 Display the slide into which you
want to insert the action button.
2 Click the image to which you
want to add the mouseover
sound.
3 Click the Insert tab.
4 Click Action.
PowerPoint displays
the Action Settings
dialog box.
5 Click the Mouse Over
tab.
6 Click Play sound
( changes to ).
7 Click the sound effect
you want to play.
8 Click OK.
PowerPoint assigns the sound file to the
image’s mouseover action.
Did You Know?
You can also choose to apply audio effects to run
when clicked instead of hovered over. Follow the
steps above, but omit Step 5.
Try This!
The hover effect works when you are viewing your
presentation in Slide Show mode. Click Slide Show,
click From Current Slide to open the slide in Slide
Show mode, and then position the mouse pointer
over the image to hear the sound.
More Options!
You can configure PowerPoint to make the image
appear as though it has been “clicked” when you
hover the mouse over it. Follow Steps 1 to 7, click to
activate the Highlight when mouse over check box,
and then click OK.
