Making Money Online with SMART Objectives

Making money online through blogging is possible with SMART objectives. We all know that for every goal, we need to determine good and practical objectives. Blog success, like any other project you embark on in life, will only happen if you set up SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound) objectives.

1. Specific objectives help you focus and remember what you need to do.

Clearly defined objectives steer you towards the right path in achieving your blogging goals. If one of your goals is to successfully monetize your blog, your objectives could be:

  • Find a profitable niche.
  • Look for profitable affiliate and advertising programs that best suits your niche.
  • Determine profitable keywords and topics for your niche.
  • Create a variety of informative blog content tailored for your niche.
  • Optimize our website and its content for better and higher rankings in search results.

If you do not have a specific blogging objective, you and your blog can easily get lost in the world wide web.

2. Measurable objectives allow you to track your progress.

If one of your blogging goals is to have a successful blog, determine the criteria you use in evaluating blog success. You can use measures such as traffic volume, feed/email subscription, comment rate, affiliate product conversion, page rank etc. to set your standards of success to compare results with. If you can’t measure the results of your objectives, it will be hard to determine if you are actually achieving them.

3. Achievable objectives enable you to use available resources effectively.

Take some time to evaluate your current resources so you can set achievable objectives. This helps you determine the most effective way to use them so you can be a step closer to your blogging goals. If your objectives are not achievable with what you currently have, you are simply wasting your time and resources.

4. Realistic objectives motivate you to work on your goal because you know that they can be achieved.

If you feel that you have unrealistic objectives, you will not work as hard as you can because you think it is futile. Realistic objectives is important in building a blog because it helps you stay focused on the tasks ahead. When you know that this objective is possible to achieve, you invest your time and heart in it.

It isn’t bad to dream big and aim for the skies, however like Thoreau said,

“If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost. There is where they should be. Now put foundations under them.”

5. Time-bound  objectives prompt you to accomplish the  tasks you need to do because you know it needs to be done in a set period of time.

You need to set realistic deadlines for your blog objectives; extremely short or  long deadlines are not only unrealistic, they can also be detrimental to your productivity. Very short deadlines can cause undue stress which will affect your performance while, very long deadlines can make you lazy in working towards your blogging goals.
